About Us

Mission Statement

Coalition for School Safety is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) grass-roots organization founded by concerned parents of Hillsborough County. CSS raises funds to purchase safety equipment and heighten security measures within Hillsborough County schools.

Pilot Project - Equipment

Newsome High School

Phase I: We have been working with Newsome High School administration and have identified four priorities:

(1) Install video security system on gate for access to  Guidance Office & Student Affairs

(2) Additional cameras on campus

(3) Classroom window coverings

(4) Additional PA speakers

UPDATE 2/13/19:  Hillsborough County has announced that it will fund and address #1.  CSS is now moving forward on the classroom window coverings as requested by the principal, Ms. Bruning.  This project is estimated at $2,500.

UDATE 6/1/19:  Front office and Guidance entry points are now equipped with Video security access systems.

Classroom Window Coverings

It is the Coalition’s goal to ensure all Fishhawk area schools have window coverings so that the teachers can tend to our children and keep them safe without spending precious minutes manipulating windows in a stressful situation.

We have chosen to install accordion shades in every classroom window and entry door.  These shades can be quickly dropped to conceal students in the event of an active threat.

Thanks to a generous donation from the George Shea Realty Team, we've been able to install over 200 shades at Newsome High School, Bevis Elementary School and Fishhawk Creek Elementary School. We will be starting Randall Middle School and Stowers Elementary School in the next few weeks.

Update 9/22/19: George pledged this week to make sure that students in ALL our FishHawk community public schools are protected!

Thank you George Shea Team!

Social Isolation

In every school and in every community, there are young people who suffer silently because they feel left out, alone or invisible. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and/or depression. As a result, many pull further from society, struggle with learning and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others.

Start with Hello

'Start with Hello' is a program that raises awareness and educates students and the community through activities, discussions, and public proclamations. This project was created by the parents of the students who suffered in the Sandy Hook tragedy. They, like so many of us, are determined to make a change, to make our schools a safer place.
